There are several aspects that affect back pain. One of the new aspects that we are implementing in our clinic is to activate the cerebellum.
The cerebellum is a very important aspect of the brain, and every study that comes out shows that it is increasingly complex. These newer studies are also showing us that it plays a much more complex role to several different functions in our day to day life. The most commonly known aspect of the cerebellum is that it affects muscle coordination and balance. However, it also works with pain modulation.
This is an aspect of back pain that is not looked at by most chiropractors. We utilize this with some of our most difficult patients, and it really helps a lot of them!
The cerebellum uses a lot of feedback in order to modulate properly. What can happen is that the feedback can be interrupted by several things including:
- Upper Extremities
- Lower Extremities
- muscle and fascia tears or disruptions (these have mechanoreceptors that feed into the system),
- eye movement problems
- several more
Clinically finding problems in these areas can really allow us to specifically treat those areas that are deficient. This can really make a difference when it comes to speeding up the treatment plan and get you back to the shape you want to be in, so you can have the fun in life that you would like!
