One of the greatest problems with our healthcare system is blood sugar regulation. In past blog posts I have discussed many topics that have to do with blood sugar regulation. Problems with blood sugar regulation include:
- And problems relating to diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Metabolic syndrome
- Behavioral Problems
- And much more
I discuss blood sugar regulation with my patients often. This is because it is so very important, and combating the problems listed above naturally can save tons of time and money. This means that hopefully patients can avoid medications or talk with their MDs about lowering their need for medications. However, I have found that people have a difficult time with my prescription diet and lifestyle modification.
I try to give a detailed understanding of how, what, and when to eat food. I even go so far as giving them a list of great foods to eat through my Pinterest account and Facebook account, but it falls dead on arrival most of the time. Some of the reasons that if fails are as follows:
- Inability to change habits
- Doesn’t like cooking
- Ease of change
These are all understandable blocks to change behaviors even if they will save money on future medical expenses. That is why I have implemented a program for people who need a bit of a push start. I am passionate about my community’s health, so even though it is not my ideal lifestyle modifications I have collaborated with Take Shape For Life.
Take Shape for Life is a program that uses three step approach to regulating blood sugar. It uses Medifast food products to replace meals, Free coaching through myself and a website that I have set up, and the Habits of Health System. If you go to a Medifast Clinic you would have to pay for the coaching, but here in Northfield you can get it free!
I am leery of programs like this for my patients, so I investigated this program in and out. What it does is it helps the patients regulate their blood sugar with the Habits of Health and the Medifast products. However, this is not enough for me to recommend it for my patients. The golden part is that Habits for Health teaches the patient how to eat and when to eat, and slowly incorporates the patient to switch to a whole food diet that is more optimal.
This is not for everyone, but it can be a great tool. If you are a person who is:
- Over weight
